Welcome to the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine, housed within the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine at the University of Utah.
We are an academic practice focused on the traditional triad of missions of a university based department. We seek to serve humanity through world‐class clinical care, innovative training, and impactful research and put the patient first in the clinic, classroom, and laboratory.

Education
Our certified high-fidelity simulation center, well organized didactic program, and widely acclaimed perioperative echocardiography curriculum are among the unique educational offerings within our department that help create great clinicians.
Research
We are deeply committed to advancing our medical specialty through research and entrepreneurship. To support this mission, we offer research opportunities for students and research grant programs for our academic faculty.
Clinical
Our preoperative clinic, perioperative echocardiography service, acute pain service, intensive care services, and pain management center all contribute to our ability to provide care from the time the patient is scheduled for an operation until they are rehabilitated back to health.

Message from the Chair
On behalf of all our faculty, residents, fellows, researchers, and administrative staff, welcome to University of Utah Health Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative, and Pain Medicine.
We have a long tradition of excellence in clinical care, scientific investigation, and training in anesthesiology and related fields such as pain medicine, intensive care, and bioengineering. Our philosophical approach to governance is grounded in three aspirations: striving for professional excellence, achieving optimal work-life balance, and treating each other like family. By meeting these aspirations, we create a unique environment for the professional development of everyone in our department.
