    About the conference

    The Theodore H. Stanley Annual Update in Anesthesiology is the longest-running anesthesiology conference in the United States.

    Join us for this premier week-long conference designed for anesthesiologists, certified registered nurse anesthetists, anesthesia assistants, anesthesiology residents, and medical students. This event offers a comprehensive review of the latest advancements in anesthesia, complemented by optional interactive workshops led by top anesthesiologists from around the globe.

    Lectures are scheduled from 7-9am and 4-7pm, allowing plenty of time to hit the slopes and explore the beauty of Park City in between sessions. Don't miss this unique opportunity to enhance your knowledge while enjoying the perfect blend of education and recreation!

     


    Cancellation Policy

    All cancellations must be submitted in writing by January 19, 2025. Cancellations received by this date will receive a full refund, minus a $100 processing fee. After January 19th, registration fees are non-refundable, except in cases of extenuating circumstances, which will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Refunds are not guaranteed. Please email refund requests to anesthesia.postgrad@hsc.utah.edu.

    Optional Workshops

    The 70th Annual Update in Anesthesiology offers a series of hands-on, optional workshops designed to enhance your clinical skills and knowledge. Participants can choose from a variety of specialized topics, including Regional Anesthesia, Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE), Electroencephalography (EEG), and updates on Emergency Airway Techniques. These workshops provide a valuable opportunity to deepen your expertise in key areas of anesthesiology.

     

    Regional Anesthesia

    Blake Campbell, MD

    In this 3 hour workshop, participants will identify relevant sonoanatomy of basic and advanced peripheral nerve blocks of the upper limb, lower limb, and trunk. Participants will break into small groups and practice hands-on ultrasound scanning on live models. The goal is to master the basic principles of ultrasound imaging and scanning techniques while learning all of the peripheral nerve blocks relevant to your practice.

    Airway: Updates on Emergency Airway Techniques

    In this 90-minute workshop, participants work through a set of difficult airway scenarios, have an opportunity to use a variety of airway management tools, and work through important decisions when managing a difficult airway.

    In this 90-minute workshop, participants work through practice using pEEG to inform clinical decision making when managing hemodynamic instability, anesthetic titration in frail patients, the administration of TIVA with neuromuscular blockade, and review pitfalls of pEEG monitoring.

    Rebecca Gerlach, MD, FRCPC

    Rebecca Gerlach, MD, FRCPC earned her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Brock University in 2004 and her Doctor of Medicine from Queen's University School of Medicine in 2008. Following her medical degree, she completed a five-year anesthesiology residency at Queen's University/Kingston General Hospital. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the University of New Mexico.

    Evan Kharasch, MD, Phd

    Duke Department of Anesthesiology

    Evan D. Kharasch, MD, PhD is the Merel H. Harmel Distinguished Professor of Anesthesiology and Vice Chair for Innovation at Duke University. A practicing clinician and renowned researcher, his work focuses on perioperative pain management, opioid use disorder treatment, and improving patient recovery. Dr. Kharasch was instrumental in the regulatory approval of sevoflurane, a widely used anesthetic, and has authored over 330 peer-reviewed publications. He is a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher, co-founder of Auragent Bioscience, and an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine. Dr. Kharasch earned his BS, MD, and PhD from Northwestern University.

    Jill Mhyre, MD, is the Dola S. Thompson Professor and Chair of Anesthesiology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas, USA, whose scholarly work focuses on obstetric quality and safety. She serves as Executive Section Editor for Obstetric Anesthesiology at Anesthesia & Analgesia, Associate Editor for Chestnut’s Obstetric Anesthesia: Principles & Practice, and Senior Editor for the American Board of Anesthesiology Advanced Written Examination. Additionally, Dr. Mhyre is a member of the ACGME Residency Review Committee for Anesthesiology.
