Family Show & Tell Night: A Hands-On Introduction to Anesthesia

In a fun and engaging evening, residents, faculty, and staff from the Department of Anesthesiology brought their loved ones to the Anesthesia Simulation Center for the annual Family Show & Tell Night. This event gave families a firsthand look into the intricate world of anesthesiology, showcasing the skills and expertise that go into patient care every day.

Participants had the chance to try out airway management techniques using high-fidelity mannequins, navigate emergency scenarios, and observe live ultrasound imaging of the heart and other anatomy. They practiced chest compressions, intubation, and even used defibrillators, guided by our dedicated colleagues who shared insights into the role of an anesthesiologist.

The evening provided a unique opportunity for family and friends to appreciate the complexity and challenges of anesthesiology. By the end of the night, there was a newfound admiration for the specialty, along with laughter, curiosity, and treats of cookies and ice cream.

This year’s Family Show & Tell Night was a memorable occasion that fostered connection and understanding, with loved ones gaining a deeper appreciation for what our anesthesiologists do every day. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event!
