Show and Tell Night Sheds Light on the Daily Work of an Anesthesiologist

In a fun and informative gathering, residents, faculty and staff along with their invited friends and family came together for an “Anesthesia Show & Tell Night” aimed at educating and exposing their support networks to the daily experience of anesthesia providers and fostering a better understanding of the anesthesiology specialty. Hosted at the Anesthesia Simulation Center, the event provided an opportunity for friends and family to engage in exploration and learning about what a day in the life of the anesthesiologist entails.

The evening kicked off with our colleagues guiding their guests through various stations and showing off the knowledge, skills and medications they use everyday. Attendees had the chance to learn more about how anesthesia is administered, explore live demonstrations of ultrasound images of the heart & other anatomy, experience an emergency situation, and get some hands-on practice with chest compressions, using a defibrillator, and attempting to intubate the mannequins without breaking the teeth!

By the end of the event, the consensus was that anesthesiology is way more complicated than it looks and also really fun! Participants gained a little more awareness of the various aspects of anesthesiology and finished the night off with cookies and ice cream. The success of this year’s show & tell night sets the stage for future years of residents, attendings and staff to share a little of what they do each day with their community and those they care about. Hope to see you next year!
