Dr. Talmage Egan, Professor and Chair in the Department, served as a visiting professor at Brigham and Women’s Hospital on October 25th, 2023, delivering a lecture entitled: Total Intravenous Anesthesia --- Theoretical and Practical Considerations. The presentation was designed as a primer on Total Intravenous Anesthesia (TIVA) techniques in part in preparation for the THRIVE trial now beginning that will compare TIVA with inhalation anesthesia in terms of various outcomes. The departments at both the University of Utah and Brigham and Women’s are participating in the multicenter THRIVE trial. The University of Utah Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine is well known for its contributions in the development of TIVA techniques.
