In 1973, the University of Utah Anesthesiology Division, under the direction of Division Chief Dr. Carter Ballinger, was small but mighty. Seven anesthesiologists had dreams of becoming a well-respected department. Their dreams became reality; accomplishing perhaps more than they ever thought possible. Their early vision has elevated the University of Utah Department of Anesthesiology into an innovation powerhouse, an educational hub for the Mountain West, and a center of excellence for patient care. Now, more than 50 years after embarking on this journey the theme of Anesthesiology Elevated will continue this tradition of excellence for decades to come.
