Department Chair, Dr. Talmage Egan, Presents at Massachusetts General Hospital’s Grand Rounds

Dr. Talmage Egan, Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Utah, was recently invited as a visiting professor at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he presented Grand Rounds on "Total Intravenous Anesthesia (TIVA): Theoretical and Practical Considerations."

During his visit, Dr. Egan also had the opportunity to visit the historic Ether Dome, the site of the first public demonstration of ether as an anesthetic in 1846—a groundbreaking moment that revolutionized surgery and anesthesiology.

Dr. Egan’s Grand Rounds presentation offered a deep dive into the theoretical and practical considerations of TIVA, engaging faculty and anesthesiology professionals at Mass General in meaningful discussions. His presence at this prestigious institution connected the past and future of anesthesiology, reflecting on the history of the Ether Dome while contributing to the advancement of modern anesthetic practices.

Massachusetts General’s Ether Dome serves as a symbol of innovation in anesthesia, and Dr. Egan’s visit highlights the University of Utah's Department of Anesthesiology as a leader in TIVA.
