The Department of Anesthesiology is pleased to share that Dr. Stephen H. Sams, MD, has been published in the February 2026 issue of ASA Monitor, the flagship publication of the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
Dr. Sams’ feature article, “Perioperative Anesthetic Management for Endovascular Thrombectomy in Acute Ischemic Stroke,” appears as part of the issue’s focus on Evolving Practices in Neuroanesthesiology. In the article, he examines key anesthetic considerations for patients undergoing endovascular thrombectomy, highlighting the anesthesiologist’s role in optimizing neurologic outcomes during this time-sensitive and complex intervention.
Drawing on current evidence and clinical experience, Dr. Sams’ work contributes to ongoing national dialogue around best practices in neuroanesthesiology and perioperative care for acute ischemic stroke. His publication reflects both individual expertise and the department’s broader commitment to advancing anesthesiology through scholarship, education, and clinical leadership.
We congratulate Dr. Sams on this accomplishment and thank him for representing the Department of Anesthesiology through his continued contributions to the field!
